Chongqing is one of the ten irons and steel production bases across the country. The total steel output in 1999 was l.74 million tons. The Southwest Aluminum Processing Plant possesses world-level advanced equipment and its capacity is 0.21 million tons a year.

Chongqing is the largest hub at the upper reaches of the Yangtze River and in southwest China . With a first-class international airport accommodating over 40 airlines including regular lines to Munich, Seoul, Nagoya and Hong Kong and charter flights to Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur, convenient railway and highway networks, the Golden Waterway of the Yangtze River and a modern telecommunication system.
